30 children and adolescents representing diverse backgrounds and communities from different provinces of Nepal came together for a two-day consultation to share their experiences, concerns, and recommendations on ending violence against children. The consultation was organised by CWIN Nepal with the support of Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Asia (TdH Netherlands) to gather children’s perspectives for Nepal’s participation in the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, to be held in Manila, Philippines, in November 2026.

The two-day event brought together children and adolescents, including representatives from sexual and gender minority communities, marginalised communities, and children facing various forms of vulnerability. Through group discussions and thematic sessions, participants explored key issues affecting children and developed recommendations to be presented to the Nepal delegation participating in the Manila conference.

Thematic discussions focused on critical areas including children’s mental health, bullying in schools, sexual violence against sexual and gender minority children, child labour, sexual violence against children, violence against boys, online safety and protection of children in digital spaces, among others.

Working in groups, children and adolescents shared their lived experiences, identified challenges, and proposed practical recommendations for government agencies, stakeholders, and decision-makers. The discussions highlighted the importance of meaningful child participation in policy-making and ensuring that the voices of children, especially those who are often excluded or unheard, are reflected in national and global commitments.

The event was addressed by Durga Prasad Chalisey, Member Secretary of NCRC-National Child Rights Council, Murari Prasad Kharel, Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission of Nepal – NHRC, Nepal, Raj Kumar Maharjan, Director of the National Cyber Security Centre-Nepal; Thangam Ponpandi, Asia Regional Representative of Terre des Hommes Netherlands; Ram Prasad Gautam, Child Protection Officer at UNICEF Nepal; and Madhav Pradhan, Chairperson of CWIN-Nepal.

The speakers reflected on the significance of the Bogotá commitments and the importance of the upcoming Manila conference as a platform to strengthen global efforts to prevent and respond to violence against children. They emphasised that children must be recognised as active partners in creating safer, inclusive, and violence-free societies.

The recommendations developed during the consultation will contribute to Nepal’s engagement in the Second Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children and will serve as a collective expression of children’s priorities, experiences, and aspirations for a safer future. The recommendations were handed over to NCRC and NHRC during the closing event.
