Training for Interfaith Committee Members on the Role of Religious Leaders in Preventing Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM)

4th August 2025, Janakpur.
National Inter-Religious Network Nepal (NIRN Nepal), conducted a two-day training for interfaith committee members from Sarlahi and Mahottari districts, in Janakpur on 3rd and 4th of August 2025. The training brought together 25 participants representing various faiths, with the goal of strengthening the role of religious leaders in preventing CEFM through scriptural interpretations, community engagement, and advocacy.
Over the course of two days, participants engaged in interactive sessions covering child rights and protection principles from both secular and religious perspectives, marriage traditions and values in religious scriptures, and the responsibilities of religious leaders in promoting healthy marriages and preventing harmful traditional practices. They also enhanced their facilitation and communication skills, equipping them to organize effective community awareness programs.
Through discussions, group work, and practical exercises, participants gained greater confidence in using religious teachings to challenge harmful norms, provide premarital counseling, and advocate for child protection. The training concluded with the joint development of a three-month action plan to prevent CEFM in their communities, demonstrating a strong commitment to implement local awareness campaigns, strengthen interfaith collaboration, and support the national agenda to end child marriage.
