Three-Day Training for Child Helpline 1098 on Child Protection with a Focus on SOGIESC

CWIN-Nepal, with support from CRC Asia, successfully conducted a three-day training for Child Helpline 1098 staff, focusing on child protection with a special emphasis on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC).*

The training aimed to enhance the staff’s understanding of SOGIESC issues and build their capacity to support children from diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. The participants, including counselors, call operators, and frontline staff, engaged in interactive sessions covering child protection, inclusive practices, and legal frameworks related to SOGIESC.

Key objectives included strengthening skills in handling sensitive cases, promoting non-discriminatory service delivery, and fostering advocacy efforts to protect children from SOGIESC communities. Participants were trained to identify risks, and create a comfortable environment for all children, regardless of their gender identity or expression.

This training marks a significant step in improving the helpline’s ability to support vulnerable children and promote inclusive, rights-based services across Nepal.
