To mark Safer Internet Day 2026, CWIN Nepal organized a celebratory event with the support of Terre des Hommes Netherlands in Asia, bringing together representatives from government agencies, law enforcement, civil society, youth networks, and child rights organizations to promote a safer digital environment for children in Nepal.
The event featured the launch of a report based on child-led research that explored teachers’ perspectives on online safety and the digital behaviour of children, highlighting emerging risks and the urgent need for coordinated action.
A panel discussion on “Technology-Facilitated Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation,” conducted by CellRD, brought together Nabinda Aryal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau, Raj Kumar Maharjan, Under Secretary at the @MoCITMinistry of Communication and Information Technology, Radhika Suwal, District Attorney, and Janaki Mahat, Coordinator of the National Youth Foundation. The panelists discussed growing online risks, legal and policy frameworks, enforcement mechanisms, and the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Special remarks were delivered by Durga Prasad Chalise, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening child protection in the digital space. Subash Khadka, CEO of ISPAN, Tresurer of WYESHR, and Subeg Pandey, Member of the National Youth Forum, highlighted the shared responsibility of service providers, civil society, and youth in promoting responsible internet use. The event concluded with special guest remarks from Indra Devi Dhakal, Member Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission of Nepal – NHRC, Nepal, reaffirming the collective commitment to combating online exploitation and ensuring a safer digital ecosystem for children.
