Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City has honored CWIN Nepal recognizing its direct contribution to adopting and declaring a child-friendly local governance system. CWIN Nepal was felicitated during the declaration ceremony in which the sub-metropolitan city was announced as free from hazardous child labor, free from child marriage, and equipped with child-friendly local governance. The award was received on behalf of CWIN Nepal by Jhabindra Gyawali, the manager of the Child Helpline Makwanpur.
Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City declared adopting a child-friendly local governance system amidst a special program which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh as the chief guest.
Before making the child-friendly declaration, the sub-metropolitan city had launched a campaign two years ago to fulfill all 51 indicators. To ensure the sustainability of this declaration, each ward has already formulated investment plans, according to Jhabindra Gyawali, the manager of Child Helpline Makwanpur. As per the plan, in the new fiscal year, budget allocation and program preparation will be carried out to maintain child-friendly governance.
Currently, there are 351 active child clubs at the community, school, ward, and municipal levels in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City. Each ward has appointed one child-friendly facilitator, along with one municipal-level child-friendly facilitator. Additionally, there are designated child-friendly contact persons in police offices and child-friendly contact teachers in all schools within the municipality. Furthermore, the city has also established an emergency child fund. By making it mandatory for all schools within the municipality to implement child protection policies, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City has officially declared itself a child-friendly governance system.
