Empowering street children through sports

In order to mark 50th National Children’s Day, Child Workers in Nepal Concerned Centre (CWIN) organised a ‘Friendly Football Tournament-2071′ for street children in the capital on Sept.16, 2014 with a theme –’Empowerment of street children with full solidarity’.

90 street children participated in the tournament which was divided into two groups- below the age of 15 and above the age of 15.
Jatin (name changed), one of the participants said, “If I will get this type of opportunity to participate in sports and recreational activities frequently, I would leave glue-sniffing habit completely.”

Kabir Pradhan, Inspector of Women and Children Service Centre of Nepal Police handed over prizes to the winners from both groups. He supported the organisations’ effort for bringing all the street children under one umbrella which helps in building a good rapport between the children, organisations and the police. He also assured the children that Nepal Police is ready to help them anytime when they need.

This event was organised in partnership with Child Watabaran Centre- Nepal, Prayas, Khushi-Nepal and Association for the Protection of Children, and was supported by Comic Relief.
