13th June 2026, Kathmandu.
Children and adolescents from different parts of Nepal came together to discuss issues affecting their rights and well-being and to contribute recommendations to Nepal’s upcoming Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process. Through group discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions, participants explored key child rights concerns, including digital safety, prevention of online sexual exploitation and abuse, mental health, education, inclusion, and meaningful child participation.
As part of the consultation, participants reviewed child rights-related recommendations from Nepal’s third UPR cycle and reflected on progress made in their implementation. Working in groups, they identified existing gaps, emerging challenges, and priority areas requiring greater attention. Based on these discussions, the children developed recommendations and prepared a memorandum urging the Government of Nepal to strengthen policies, protection mechanisms, awareness programs, and child-friendly services to better safeguard and promote children’s rights.
The consultation also provided participants with an opportunity to learn about human rights monitoring mechanisms and the role children can play in promoting accountability. During the event, Inspector Deepa Timalsina from the Cyber Bureau, Nepal Police, shared information on various forms of cybercrime and online rights violations affecting children and adolescents. She highlighted real cases of online abuse and exploitation and informed participants about available reporting channels and protection mechanisms.
The recommendations generated during the consultation will contribute to reports submitted as part of Nepal’s fourth-cycle Universal Periodic Review, helping ensure that children’s voices, experiences, and priorities are reflected in international human rights monitoring processes.
The event is organized with the support of Terres Des Homes Netherlands (TDH Netherlands).
