Under the Public Education Strengthening Campaign, 30 adolescents from the National Adolescent Girls’ Network and National Adolescent Boys’ Network actively participated in a Child Participation Promotion Program.
During the program, participants shared their lived experiences, challenges, and concerns from schools and collectively developed and presented evidence-based recommendations for policies, programs, and school infrastructure to be incorporated into the forthcoming Education Act. The adolescents emphasized the need for a more inclusive, equitable, and child-responsive education system that reflects the realities and aspirations of students.
The program also facilitated dialogue on the broader state of public education in Nepal, highlighting concerns regarding investment gaps and the need for meaningful reforms to strengthen the education sector. Social education activist Bimal Phuyal shared insights on the right to education, fundamental rights, and the importance of ensuring quality education for all. Likewise, education advocate and Chairperson of the National Campaign for Education, Lov Raj Oli, reflected on the past and present state of education in Nepal, highlighting the need for meaningful reforms and increased investment in the education sector.
The initiative reaffirmed the importance of meaningful child participation in education policymaking processes and the need to systematically integrate children’s voices into national education planning and reform efforts.
