School-Based Mental Health Screening and Counseling Camps Conducted in Sindhuli

CWIN-Nepal has been conducting school-based mental health screening and counseling camps in different schools of Kamalamai Municipality with the objective of identifying children’s mental health conditions and ensuring access to necessary counseling and treatment services. The camps are being organized with the support of Plan International.

As part of the initiative, a mental health screening and counseling camp is being conducted today at Shree Shankareshwor Secondary School, for students of grades 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. targeting around 150 children from the surrounding community.

Similarly, yesterday a camp was organized at Janata Secondary School. During the camp, 168 children underwent mental health screening, while 44 students received detailed assessments along with necessary mental health treatment and counseling services. Children requiring additional support were referred to local health facilities, and follow-up support has been arranged through the school health nurse.

Earlier on Monday, a similar camp was conducted at Shree Secondary School, in Khayarsal Marin where 149 children received mental health screening services. Among them, 52 students underwent detailed assessments and were provided with necessary treatment and psychosocial counseling support.

During the camps, screening questionnaires were distributed to all students for the preliminary identification of mental health concerns. Referred cases from local hospitals were also assessed, and necessary psychosocial services were provided. Coordination and discussions were further held with school principals, school health nurses, and other stakeholders to ensure continuity of support services.

Following the completion of activities in Kamalamai Municipality, CWIN-Nepal will continue conducting similar mental health camps in schools of Sunkoshi Municipality.
