Norway's Minister of International Development, Honourable Dag-Inge Ulstein visited the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit at Kanti Children's Hospital which was started after the devastating earthquake of 2015. The Honourable Minister also visited the new building site under construction dedicated to Child Mental Health at the premises of Kanti Children's Hospital with the financial support of Forut Norway, Norwegian Psychiatric Association and Touch Ireland. Members of the Norwegian delegation and officials from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu were also present during the visit.

The Director of Kanti Children’s Hospital, Prof. Dr. R.P. Bichha extended a warm welcome to the Minister and appreciated his interest in promoting child mental health in Nepal. Mr. Staale Stavrum, the International Programme Director of FORUT-Norway delivered a vote of thanks. He gave an overview of the child mental health initiative in Nepal and briefed the delegation about future plans that include the operation of in-patient service for child mental health, telepsychiatry and training on child and adolescent mental health.

The Norwegian Minister, Ulstein, remarked that the work being initiated with limited resources in the field of children's mental health in Nepal is greatly appreciable and expressed his belief that this initiative can lead to a substantial intervention. Minister Ulstein expressed satisfaction over the contribution by the Norwegian government and the people through Forut-Norway in the field of child mental health of Nepal.

Minister Ulstein also spent some time interacting with child patients in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Department. 
The Honourable Minister of International Development of Norway Mr. Dag-Inge Ulstein is on a three-day visit to Nepal to participate in the Scaling Up Nutrition Conference being organized in Kathmandu.
